I have to throw this one in, too. I neglected to add it to my Christmas-themed post. Doesn't really have anything to do with Christmas and New Years but, it does have Holiday in the title....and it gives me the opportunity to share it.

The Lovefreekz

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

This one just made my "favorites of the year" list! They use a sample from ELO's 1979 hit "Shine A Little Love."

Not sure why I didn't get to this one sooner.

Before Shine saw mainstream release it had already become a massive club anthem across the UK. Something that should come as no surprise considering that The Lovefreekz (aka Mark Hadfield) is no stranger to massive dance hits. He toured with early rave outfits such as the Prodigy and SL2, and became part of the renowned Loveland.

Jacques Lu Cont

Image hosted by TinyPic.comStuart Price - 27, is a Grammy Award winning musician, songwriter, producer, remixer and DJ whose output is as consistent as it is broad.

Signing his first record deal while still at school, Stuart got busy releasing records under two band names:

'Les Rythmes Digitales' his one man band have released two albums, the understated & atmospheric debut Liberation and the genre defining Darkdancer (1999) which is frequently name checked as hugely influential on the records that followed, being recognized as the first Electroclash release, using 80's influenced sounds with contemporary beats.

'Zoot Woman' is Stuarts' other band where he works alongside brothers Adam and John Blake to produce a more classically constructed and less dance floor orientated set of songs. Again there are two albums to boast about, 2001's Living In A Magazine and 2003's self titled 'Zoot Woman'.

In 2001 Stuart became Madonna's Musical Director for her live shows & has subsequently directed the Drowned World Tour (2001) & the Re-invention Tour (2004). Between gigs Stuart and Madonna found time to sit down together and co-write the song X-Static Process which is featured on 2003's American Life album. He has remixed for her and has just finished co-writing and producing her forthcoming album Confessions On A Dancefloor.

They have also received some airplay on BBC Radio1. They are presently working on a EP/Demo of all original songs. If they are as great as this remix, then I can't wait to hear it. I expect a copy sent this way when it is finished!

Mike Balance

Image hosted by TinyPic.comMike Balance (a.k.a. Michael Sanchez) has been involved with electronic music for half of his life. At 14 he discovered electronic dance music in Houston, TX and by 16 was making noise of his own with long time friend Craig Biesel. In 1993 Mike went to his first underground warehouse party in Austin, TX and was changed forever. Only a year later Mike moved to Boise, ID and continued to produce electronic music and began DJing and throwing parties which helped create the underground dance scene in Boise.

After years of DJing and helping throw events, Mike decided to get serious about his music and purchased an MPC 2000 which lead to many hours and sleepless nights of fine tuning his sound and perfecting his trade. In 2000 Mike was ready to take things to the next level and made 100 promo copies of Fresh Choice Music No. 1 which got great reviews by fellow DJs and producers and sparked the interest of Soul Phusion Records.

In 2001 Mike had his first official release on Soul Phusion titled "Gotta Make It Happen" with Smitty & Eric Davenport which was charted by Angel Alanis, Stonebridge and David Garcia and was shortly thereafter followed up by his second release "Star Trunk Funk" on Insight Recordings in 2002 which received major recognition on dancefloors and DJ charts worldwide and appeared on DJ Dan's Mixed Live: Ruby Skye.

Image hosted by TinyPic.comIn 2003 Stoney Boy released "House Meanies" which rocked dance floors all over Sweden and Europe, thanks to Stonebridge, and "Funky Emotions" appeared on "The Next Generation" Soul Phusion's 25th Anniversary release which was charted by Charles Feelgood, Vitamin D and many others.

In 2004 FunkTeck Recordings released Mike's first remix; Jonlephunk "Punk Rock Disco" which was #1 on the DanceRecords.com house sellers for a week and is still being charted and played by house DJs everywhere! "It's in the Music" on Focused Music also proved to be a #1 DanceRecords seller and got great reviews in Big Shot Magazine (formerly Mixer Mag).

This year marks the release of Mike's second remix; High Caliber & Paul Anthony "The Rejection Hotline" as well as highly anticipated remixes with Noah Hyde of Red-Eye & Andrewz "I Need You" on Molacacho and Jason Philter "From Ya Soul" on FunkTeck. 2005 brings great promise with releases scheduled for Ammo Recordings and DJ Dan's own In Stereo, not to mention the latest of many mixed cds "On Track" which will insure many great things to come...

Howard Stern

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

With Howard Stern leaving old-fashion boring terrestrial radio and headed for Sirius Satellite Radio, I thought now would be a great time to feature a song that I put together back in 2000. I say 'put together' because it was done with a program called E-Jay. But so what, right? It's all what you do with it! So...the following is my way of honoring all that he has done and will continue to do in the future!

Most likely this song will only appeal to Stern fans, but give it a shot. You never know!

All the samples in the song are from his radio show. So enjoy!

The Underdog Project

Image hosted by TinyPic.comThe Underdog Project was formed when lead singer Vic Krishna was visiting Germany and had a jam session with Canadian singer Craig Smart and the production team of Tone Def and Triple S. It went so well that they started recording immediately - mostly demo tapes, but also finished tracks. Soon there was enough for a complete album and It Doesn't Matter was the end result. With it's unmistakable beats and casual grooves, it's appeal spans most genres.

"Summer Jam" was one of the biggest pop hits in Europe. Mixing elements of reggae, R & B, freestyle, and English 2-step, it creates a musical blend so new and refreshing that people just couldn't get enough of it. It pretty much crossed all musical boundaries. Radio stations were flooded with requests for it the minute it aired. At one point, it was on the rotation list of every pop radio station in Germany.

As more and more people discovered the Underdog Project's laid-back grooves and irresistible basslines and hooks, the Summer Jam only got bigger. Summer Jam reached a high of #2 on the German Pop Charts. MTV Germany and VIVA both supported the video adding even more exposure.

Digital Orgasm

Now would be a good time to feature the band the inspired this blog's name. Not wanting to use the name Digital Orgasm, I, of course, substituted the word Or with the word Ear.

Clever, huh?

Being a huge Lords of Acid fan, it would only seem natural that I would like a group that featured members of that band.

It started in the mid-80s when Praga Khan, then a popular club D.J., picked up on a Belgian innovation. "We were slowing down the song 'Flesh' by the band A Split Second from 45 RPM to 33 RPM," recalls Khan. "The high notes were still there, but the bass was really deep." Khan was one of the first people in the world to augment music with a drum machine and keyboards, playing one record plus additional music over it.

Soon D.J.s across the country were deliberately slowing down records -- the craze became known as New Beat. Khan conceived of recording original material in New Beat, and later released a compilation on his own label, Antler-Subway. The album, "New Beat - Take One" hit # 1, becoming one of the best-selling releases in Belgian history and immediately catapulted Khan to a position of prominence in the Belgian music scene.

Around that time he met, Jade 4U, a beautiful aspiring singer. He also got in touch with Oliver Adams, a young extremely talented studiofreak. Soon Praga Khan, Jade 4U and Oliver Adams were partners looking for new worlds to conquer. "The Belgian sound became to common at home," notes Jade, "but other countries were just picking up on it. It wasn't strictly for Belgians anymore." Their music -- polyrhythmic, erotic, heavily sampled, and powerfully sung by Khan and Jade -- while drawing on the best of industrial and funk -- began to hit stride, and D.O. began turning out a string of hit records.

Songs like "Running out of Time," "Moog Eruption" and "Startouchers" were Top 20 hits in the U.K., France, Belgium, Italy, and other European countries, and over the course of three European tours, D.O. has developed a reputation as a phenomenal live band. "When we do a show, we do it right," says Khan. "When we played Heaven in London, other labels sent their Techno bands to see us to figure out how to do it." Adds Oliver Adams, "We're stage animals. Most fans and critics see us as a rock band.

Meanwhile, Praga Khan and Oliver Adams can most likely be found back at their Tienen studio, doing what they do best -- making hit records. Belgian style.

Bee Gees

Image hosted by TinyPic.comI'll admit it. Back in the day, I was a Bee Gee hater. I couldn't stand anything that they put out (except for "Jive Talkin'"), and wouldn't be caught dead listening to them. It wasn't that I was against disco, per se. I did like a few disco songs at the time...like : Born to be alive, Don't leave me this way, and most of the stuff that was put out by KC & The Sunshine Band. I grew to really like dance music the first time that I heard Funky Town. But...it wasn't until N-Trance came out with their version of "Stayin' Alive" that I began to enjoy the rest of the Bee Gee's catalog. Now... I have no qualms about slapping on a Bee Gee's song at a dance that I'm Deejaying!
