The Family's self-titled 1985 album is considered one of the finest records ever by a Prince side project. The group was created in June 1984 by
Prince.
The Family was recorded at the height of the Purple Rain hysteria in 1984 and completed in time for the Purple Rain tour. The project was put on hold until after the tour, when Prince mixed the tapes, before the album was released in August 1985.
However, three months later the group was dissolved.
The Family consisted of former members of Prince's back-up band
Revolution and members of the group
The Time. They were
Eric Leeds, Jellybean Johnson, Jerome Benton, St. Paul, and
Susannah, (Twin sister of Wendy Melvoin of Wendy & Lisa).

Right?
Well, at least we can enjoy the remixes!

The Boston Phoenix's blog,
On The Download, was nice enough to provide a link to this blog in one of their posts, but did they have to say the following?
"Terrible techno remixes of horrible classic rock songs. Wow."Jeesh...that wasn't very nice. Oh well. Any publicity is good publicity, right?
Angelica Deno - "Wicked"The Killers - "Somebody told me (king unique vocal remix)"KLF - "What time is love (2005 remix)"Depeche Mode - "A pain that I'm used to (dj dab jacks lu cont remix)"Since the official remix by Jacques Lu Cont won't be released until December 12th I'll provide you with an unofficial remix.

With the following songs I'm going to try a new host...one that will allow the links to stay active as long as there has been a download of that song in a 30 day period. This way, the songs will not expire in 12 days, or after only so many downloads. If anyone runs into any trouble please let me know!
The Disco - "Chapter (extended mix)"The Knife - "Take my breath away (2005 mhc remix)"David Guetta - "Money (wally lopez remix)"Bob Sinclair - "Sexy Dancer (gambafreaks main mix)"The Twin - "Here cum the girls (2005 electro remix)"

I received a lot of good feedback on my Sequence/Sugar Hill post, so I thought that I would post a few more from that label!
"The SugarHill Gang - "Rapper's Delight"The 15 minute masterpiece that started my love for rap. At one time, I knew every single word to this song. I'm sure that there are a lot of you out there that can recall the first time they heard this song. It was so different than what I was listening to at the time that I was just mesmerized by it. I couldn't get enough it. 15 minutes was too short, in my opinion!
Mean Machine - "Disco Dream"Every week, I would run to the local record store to find out if any new records from the Sugarhill label came in. I was so into this new thing called rap that I would buy anything from that label. This is one that I bought without even hearing it...and what a great song it turned out to be!
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - "New York New York"Another top-notch song from Flash, along the same line as
The Message.

DJ Marco Zappala, another visitor to
Digital Eargasm, was nice enough to send me his following remix. Another great job! I look forward to hearing more from this fine remixer!

Roman Flugel is an underground techno legend. As an artist (
Eight Miles High, Acid Jesus) and a label owner (
Ongaku, Playhouse, Klang), he has pushed the right-brain/left-brain divide in club music until booty shake is almost left behind entirely. He is also one half of
Alter Ego, which found itself at the end of 2004 with one of the biggest club smashes of the year, called
"Rocker." I'll give you the Eric Prydz remix.
"Geht’s Noch?" is just "Rocker" redux, but hey, if it ain’t broke. It’s not quite as distorted or overdriven as "Rocker," but it pivots on a similarly stoopid riff, a vreep-vreep-VREEP that rises in pitch until it’s scraping the inside of your skull. Without that nasty little hook, it’d just be another minimal techno track, but with it "Geht’s Noch?" is another all-conquering anthem, inspiring former tech-nerds to worship the riff. By now it’s played out for tastemaking DJs everywhere, but throw it on at your next party and watch how quickly the shirts come off.

O-Zone was a pop group made up of Dan Bălan, Radu Sârbu, and Arsenie Toderaş. Originally from Moldova, the band launched in Romania. They mainly play eurodance music and are famous for the single "Dragostea Din Tei", a notable summer hit which reached Number 1 in the singles charts of many countries during 2003 and 2004, and Number 3 in the United Kingdom.
Despite its multi-platinum status in Europe, O-Zone never even scraped the bottom of the charts in America. An English recording of "Dragostea Din Tei" was released in early 2005, under the title "Ma Ya Hi". "Ma Ya Hi" was performed by Lucas Prata and Dan Bălan on the New York Today Show on February 22, 2005. Nevertheless, "Ma Ya Hi" did not prove to be a hit, peaking only at #72 in March on Billboard.
In 2005 the group split up. All of the members went their separate ways and started their own solo careers.

Pioneering New York label Sugar Hill Records (home of Grandmaster Flash) launched the first female rap group, The Sequence, in 1979, and they immediately hit with the good-time
"Funk You Up." The lineup was
Angie B (Angie Brown Stone),
Blondie (Gwendolyn Chisholm), and
Cheryl The Pearl (Cheryl Cook), and they managed a couple of minor hits over the next couple of years before fading away. After a decade of odd jobs including singing backup for Buckwheat Zydeco, Stone made high-tech yet smooth R&B - no more rapping - as part of the trio Vertical Hold, hitting in 1993 with
"Seems You're Much Too Busy." Still later, Angie recast herself as a neo-soul singer along the lines of Erykah Badu, and released a fine 1999 solo debut, largely self-written and self-produced.
The 1979 hit
"Funk You Up" wasn't included on any Sequence album; it's prototypical Sugar Hill: a funky Doug Wimbish bass line and light-hearted boasts (many of the rhymes are repeated from the
Sugar Hill Gang's "8th Wonder," in fact).
"Funk you up"Sometimes it's hard to describe a certain style of a song; whether it's techno, trance, or trip-hop, because everyone seems to have their own definitions. I guess that you would call the following song Funky Minimalistic-techno...or some such thing.

I was probably one of the few Prodigy fans that actually liked their last CD
Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. So...I'll give you some new remixes of their more famous and well-liked tracks. Well...except for
'Spitfire', which was the only good remix of an Outgunned tune that I could get my hands on. I did find one each for
'Hotride' &
'Get Up Get Off' (my 2 favorite Prodigy songs), but I didn't find them to be Digital Eargasm-worthy!
"No Good (donk mix)""Firestarter (2005 dj l.e.d. remix)""Out of Space (2005 audio bullys remix)""Spitfire (2005 future funk squads "dogfight" mix)""Smack my bitch up (2005 dj scot project bootleg hands in the air mix)"The Prodigy vs Derb - "Smack my derb (2005 rare white label mix)"

This group was the first one that I posted about when I started Digital Eargasm. The following 2 songs just give me a great feeling when I listen to them and I'm really surprised that neither made a huge impression in the States. I can't rave about these songs enough.
Give 'em a try, ya'll!!

Leslie Jones, Wanda Perry, and
Margo Thunder each began singing at a very early age. By 1976, they were students at Madison Park High School, in the music division named for the great concert tenor and singer of spirituals, Roland Hayes (1887-1977). The three first heard one another sing there, and they immediately decided they had to be in a vocal group together.
In the summer of 1985,
9.9 was on a bill at Nine Landsowne Street with Natalie Cole. Brett Milano, writing for the Boston Globe, praised their "gospel fervor and rich, brassy harmonies." He said they "sounded ready for success."
The album,
9.9, was released in August; and it supports Milano's description of the group's singing and his optimistic view of their potential. A single, "All of Me for All of You," became a hit.

When I was deejaying at the local club I would have called the following tunes
"Seat-boogie Songs." You know...songs that you play at the beginning of the evening to get the crowd in the mood.
And how can you tell that they are getting into the mood?
By bopping and
boogying in their seat, letting others know that they are ready to be asked to dance.
Antoine Clamaran - "Let's get together everybody (a1 mix)"Royksopp - "49 percent (angello & ingrosso remix)"Slackjaw - "Don't Stop (gold digger mix)"Dynas T - "Let me see U groove"DJ Disciple - "Yes"

Here are 3 songs that I'm really enjoying right now. Give the crowd a taste of these and I bet they'll be screaming for more!

For over six years, Chris Malinchak and DJ Greg Bahary have been collaborating to generate some of the finest house music the world has ever heard. Under their monikers
Live Element,
Native New Yorker’s, and
Hott 22, live instrumentation meets sophisticated sample manipulation that ranges from classic to cutting-edge.
Their live performances are nothing short of "Hott" as the name suggests. Greg Bahary has been spinning for the last thirteen years. He currently plays weekly, and maintains a residency at Tao, New York City. Greg currently has added a monthly residency at the Subliminal Sessions party held at Discotheque, New York City.
For those that love Disco/House, these are the tunes for you!

Boozoo Bayou is American roots music, mixed with electronic sounds. You take the best from the past and mix it with today's fresh sound. What emerges is a sound that feels right at home with anyone who’s into roots, rock, dance and reggae.

If you've been listening to Howard Stern recently (what a great great radio show - everyone run out and get Sirius Radio now!), you've heard him play a sample of the following song (

Ok...I'm sittin' at home, having a few drinks, (doesn't the music sound better after a few drinks? - though, this one is great anyway!), trying to get the good tunes out at ya, and I have to give you this one.
I love this song!

Some may know Steve as the prior opening DJ for Bad Boy Bill or JJ as the remixer behind high profile artists like Christina Milian or NSYNC. Regardless, the House Music community knows both artists as a production force to be reckoned with. Their music has created a frenzy on dance-floors worldwide and previously released singles like "Release", "Get Naked", and "B Like Me" became bonafide hits receiving play by the world's top DJ's, as well as play on the world's most respected mix show, Radio 1.
This is some great stuff! Don't miss out on these! I usually post remixes instead of original versions, but these sound so much better!
"Time for love"Like their previous releases, this one should be huge!!

Not many people know this, but Stacy Kidd's cousin is Paul Johnson. You know, the guy who made "Get Get Down," one of the biggest club hits of '99. Anyhow, while his cousin has made the big time, Kidd is still stomping around behind the scenes. An underground trooper you could call him.
Kidd's style is unique. He blends retro disco samples with deep Chicago-house beats to perfection. He fuses uplifting, soulful vocal samples and time-honored disco licks with driving four-to-the-floor beats.
I'm reluctantly posting the following song...not because of the title...but because I'm not sure if this is the right song/artist. I've been trying to get comfirmation on it, but there appear to be several different versions. So I will go with the title/artist that I have until someone out there tells me otherwise. I do hope that this is the one that DJ A has been asking for."Mother F*ck*r"

Shalamar was the creation of Dick Griffey, the booking agent for the television R&B program Soul Train, and British R&B producer Simon Soussan. The group's first single, the 1977 Motown medley "Uptown Festival," featured a bevy of faceless studio musicians; once it became a hit, Griffey decided to form a performing group under the name Shalamar. Through Soul Train, Griffey found
Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniels, and Gerald Brown, the three vocalists that became Shalamar; Brown was quickly replaced by Howard Hewitt in 1978.
The addition of Hewett was the missing ingredient to turn Shalamar from a faceless dance act to a real Soul group and, combined with the maturing of Watley into a fine vocalist, created the most popular and interesting lineup the group would ever have.
Shalamar scored a surprising top 20 pop hit in 1984 with their contribution to the Footloose soundtrack,
“Dancing In The Sheets” (produced by Bill Wolfer), and did moderately well with the album Heartbreak.
