Rappin' & Ravin'

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

I enjoy techno-influenced dance songs that have rap in them, yet aren't your typical 'rap' songs.

Like these!

Sonic Surfers - "Don't you give it up"
I love the straight-ahead energy of this one!

Unity2 - "Buckwheat the Rebel"

Clubzone - "Hands up"

I was going to stop there but, I am in such an old-skool rave-music kind of mood, I just have to toss these out too!

L.A. Style - "I'm Raving"
My favorite rave song!

The Movement - "Jump (headstrong mix)"
My 2nd favorite rave song!

Nymphomania - "I want your body"

The Beach feat. Tia

As someone who doesn't like the cold weather coming on, I'm going to hold onto summer as long as I can. This song does the trick!

"Suntan (freemasons vocal mix)"

Voodoo & Serano

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

DJ VooDoo and Tommy Serano have long outgrown the status of “newcomers” or “unknowns”. By now they have established themselves solidly amongst the elite DJ Stars and have become Hit Record Producers to boot.

Their first joint production under the name VooDoo & Serano became an instant major success. “Blood is Pumping” stayed in the Pop Charts for many weeks in Germany and managed a #19 position in the UK as well.

Here's the latest remix of that song.

"Blood is Pumping (2005 tribal mix)"

Boy George

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

If you were never into the whole Boy George phenomenon, when he first hit with the Culture Club, then later on you would have missed this nu-jack floor slammer, after he no longer was relevant. Well, this song thrust him into a whole new side of dance music, which then lead to a career as a DJ.

"Don't take my mind on a trip"

Late into the evening

Kennedy

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

Not really a dance song, (it's a little too slow), but I had to throw this one out to ya! I caught the video to this song on one of the various link sites and immediately fell in love with it. I just love the 70's soul vibe to it, even though I was never really into that style.
Go figure!

Champion Burns

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

Champion Burns is one of the best production teams in the industry with their funky bass filled twisted tracks that drive the crowds crazy!

One of the things that I loved about 80's rap was the scratchin'. Champion Burns brings it full circle with this hard dance nu-style pounder!

"Scratchism"

Got to move to the trick of the beat

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

Dab Hands - "Supergood"
Samples Sniff & the Tears - "Driver's Seat"...one of my favorite songs.

Luka

"To Nem Ai" is one of those infectious dance tracks that has been filling dancefloors nationwide. Sultry vocals over a funky house beat are the perfect combination for a dance classic!

Take 'em to the Club

Soul Revenger - "Keep it (2005 ibiza house sampler mix)"
Samples Kim Wilde's version of "Keep me hanging on".

Alex Gaudino feat. Crystal Waters - "Destination Unknown"

Club 69 feat. Lulu - "Men are drugs (friburn & urik club mix)"
Club 69 always comes through with the beats!

The Lost Brothers

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

The Lost Brothers are Harry Diamond, Sergei Hall and Kieron McTernan from Brighton in the UK and they knew what they were doing when they sampled parts of "Cry little Sister" - the main theme to "The Lost Boys" movie that most of us have never forgotten. The original vocalist, G Tom Mac (aka Gerard McMann) was so impressed with the remixes he offered to re-record the original vocal track! From there, the lost Brothers re-charged it, re-amped it, re-vived and re-VAMPED it!

"Cry little sister (club mix)"

Phon.O

I'm really high on this one. Reminds me of Missy Elliot & Timbaland breakin' off a funky beat, and then trying to put it back together.

"Trick or Treat"

Eric B & Rakim

Image hosted by TinyPic.comOne of rap's most influential acts during the 1980s, Eric B & Rakim made the sampling of James Brown records the main source for hip-hop's sound during the late '80s and early '90s, beginning with their stellar debut, Paid in Full.

While Eric B dazzled listeners with his turntable techniques, Rakim pointed the way toward the easy-rollin' style of the '90s with his laidback raps, though forceful in content. Each of the duo's first three albums achieved gold status, and they even managed the Top Five R&B hit "Friends" in 1989.

While working as a mobile DJ for New York's WBLS during 1985, Eric Barrier met William Griffin, a top MC who had grown up on Long Island. The two began recording together and emerged with "Eric B Is President."

The single appeared in 1986 on Harlem's Zakia label, and became a street sensation. Signed to 4th & Broadway the following year, Eric B & Rakim released their debut album, Paid in Full.

The LP's success led to a contract with Uni/MCA in 1988, and their second album, Follow the Leader, was released that year. Two more albums followed, Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em (1990) and Don't Sweat the Technique (1992), after which the duo broke up. By the mid-'90s, Eric B. had emerged as a solo act on his own 95th Street label.

Now you get this!

The young playboy took a blind date to an amusement park. They went for a ride on the Ferris wheel. The ride completed, she seemed rather bored. "What would you like to do next?" he asked.

"I wanna be weighed," she said.

So the young man took her over to the weight guesser. "One-twelve," said the man at the scale, and he was absolutely right.

Next they rode the roller coaster. After that, he bought her some popcorn and cotton candy, then he asked what else she would like to do.

"I wanna be weighed," she said.

"I really latched onto a square one tonight," thought the young man, and using the excuse he had developed a headache, he took the girl home.

The girl's mother was surprised to see her home so early, and asked,

"What's wrong, dear, didn't you have a nice time tonight?"

"Wousy," said the girl.

DJ Taylor & Flow

Born and raised in Vienna, Austria, brothers Konrad and Florian Schreyvogl formed a techno/rave duo called DJ Taylor & Flow in the late '90s after working as audio technicians and sound engineers.

Their sacred-experimental techno, based on a mix of prayers and spoken words from the Bible with electronic rhythms, debuted in the U.S. with the release of a six-track maxi-single called Gott Tanzte in October 2000.

Er,........their newest release is just a little bit different!

More cool stuff that doesn't fit into the dance category:

Industrial D'n'B, with some reggae vocals thrown in at the end.

Burning Rome - "Once Over"

Moustache feat. Melinda Jackson

What will, without a doubt be the next massive crossover dance single, MOUSTACHE delivers a familiar hook from Fleetwood Mac's immortal "Everywhere" & turns it into a modern feel-good dance anthem.

Moustache show how well a cover version can be done & vocalist Melinda Jackson shows how well she can channel Christine McVie.

Sheila Brody

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

When songwriter and vocalist Sheila Brody sings, she transports listeners to another emotional place, as each chord of her voice touches a tender zone in the heart. Her tone is familiar – her words too, as they stir deep down in the soft part of your wounded soul. She makes your heart joyful, makes you shout, as she disperses soothing medicine to make everything alright through lyrics in which she tells the story of a woman whose spirit cannot be broken. They are stories we can all relate to.

Frickin' A

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

Even though I am a Boston Red Sox fan, I don't believe that I've heard Frickin' A's tribute song to them for winning the World Series last year; and if I did hear it, I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't like it. I mean, how many tribute songs do you really like?

But I do like a song that they have on the same CD. A remake of a song by Rick Springfield.

Bronski Beat

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

London's Bronski Beat will be remembered for a number of things. Anyone who has seen the video for "Smalltown Boy" -- which remains gripping and sobering decades later --can likely recall at least one of its scenes in vivid detail. It was only Bronski Beat's first single, but it became the group's best-known, reaching the top of Billboard's U.S. dance chart while peaking at number three on the U.K. pop chart.

More importantly, the song was typical for the group in that it centered on singer Jimmy Somerville's experiences as a young gay man. It also exemplified the group's moody electronic-pop sound and introduced a number of people to a voice that continues to sound like no other -- one that can soar into a unique falsetto while drawing from a deep pool of emotions that ranges from intense internal strife to bliss.

Sebastian Ingrosso

Image hosted by TinyPic.comIf you’ve ever been to Stockholm, you’ll know that quality is key...in absolutely everything from food to appearances! And especially music! You’ll also more than likely have had some contact with the Ingrosso family!
Let’s just say that this family of Italian descent have a considerable presence in the city! Rewind though, and you’ll find a young Sebastian growing up in the ghetto with a certain Steve Angello.

Best buddies through thick and thin, these boys looked to music for their distraction. Hip-hop, movie soundtracks, funk & soul, techno…everything! Skipping school to go to parties, and later, to put on parties, the pair soon developed a taste for show business! Making crowds go wild. And making it pay – even better! So welcome to Sebastian’s world: Streetwise. Energetic. Charming.

Today Sebastian & Steve are members of a group called the Swedish House Mafia – a name to watch out for! When Sebastian isn’t putting out tracks and remixes for the cream of the world’s dance community, he is busy running his own highly successful label Refune Records. Tough, electronic, cutting edge and massively effective dance floor material that epitomizes the man himself…

Passionate, smart, independent, talented and right in your face! You’ll be hearing a lot more from this exceptional young man.

Free-for-all Friday

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

Last week I mentioned that once a week I would feature songs that weren't really dance music but were songs that I hoped you would still enjoy. Even though I lean heavily toward dance music, I do like other styles. For instance, here are my 5 favorite CD's.
  1. Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
  2. Lords of Acid - Lust
  3. ACDC - Back in Black
  4. Messiah - 21st Century Jesus
  5. The Cars - Candy-O
As you can see, not exactly your standard dance music. I tend to like anything with a heavy beat, so naturally I would be drawn, over-all, to the dance side of the music spectrum.

But now, for something different.........

Celldweller - "Stay with me"

Fingathing - "Cluster Buster"

TV on the Radio - "Staring at the sun"
