Hip House

Kickn Kenny V started out in Chicago as a House dancer with the largest crew know as II Hype. In the winter of 90 he was called up by a DJ known as Dynamite Dean aka the Young Brother. If you know Chicago Hip House then you know who the Two Young Brothers are by their smash hit

"Check Out The Hook".

Here are a couple more Hip-House tunes.

Cut'n'Move - "Get serious"
Cover Girls - "Funk Boutique"

Sometimes you just need some good azz-kikkin dance music to help you beat out your frustrations.

Head, Wall.
Wall, Head.

Nice to meet ya!

Utah Saints - "Power to the Beats"

The Roots & BT - "Tao of the Machine"

SundaySkool - Indeep

Hailing from New York, the dance-disco outfit Indeep scored a massive hit in 1983 with "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life." Led by songwriter Michael Cleveland, the band issued a full-length album under the same title shortly thereafter, but with the disco movement almost extinct by this time (and with the emergence of such styles as rap), Indeep subsequently had a tough time following up their smash and were delegated to "one-hit wonder" status.

But don't let that fool you. If you enjoy "Last night a DJ saved my life", you will definitely enjoy the following 2 songs.

"When Boys Talk"
"Record Keeps Spinning"

Alcazar

Alcazar are Sweden's latest dance sensation. The members include Tess, Annikafiore, Andreas and Magnus. Their sound takes you back to the mirror ball, strobe light disco days of the late 70's & early 80's. Listening to this group is like Studio 54 all over again! This also becomes evident in their videos. To Alcazar, fun and originality are more important in their visual style than the usual manipulative tricks. Scandanavia has produced an impressive number of pop acts beginning with a capital A. Alcazar is the latest example in this great tradition. Possibly the most sophisticated of them all, and certainly the first to take its starting point in the current dance music revolution.

Here are 2 that I enjoy.

The first song samples Diana Ross' Upside Down and Genesis' Land of Confusion.

"This is the world we live in (almighty mix)"
"Sexual Guarantee (fu-tourist remix)"

Dannii Minogue

The youngest sibling, Dannii is no stranger to the entertainment industry, being sister to Kylie Minogue. The family beauty certainly didn't stop at her older sister. Dannii became a success in Australia, garnering awards for her performances on hit television series and music albums.

Shortly there after she moved to England where she began hosting British television talk shows and kids shows.

This is my favorite remix of the following song.

"Put the needle on it (jason nevins mix)"

Almost time for the weekend!

Let's see if I can get you pumped for the weekend.

Try these out.

Krupa - "Round & Round"

Pussy Dub Foundation - "Stand Up (gambafreaks porno mix)"

Secret Service - "I'm coming out"

2 Brothers on the 4th floor

2 brothers on the 4th Floor are one of the most popular euro dance acts ever.

Dutch brothers Bobby and Martin Boer had been experimenting with music for years in a little bedroom.
But then in 1990 things really started to happen for them, the single "Can't Help Myself" was picked up by Dutch radio stations and became an international hit.

Nowadays they still work behind the scenes of this act.
On stage rapper D-Rock and singer Des'Ray perform the songs.

I absolutely love the featured song !

"I'm thinkin' of U"

JFK

JFK has spent the last decade supporting the World’s Trance Scene with globe-trotting, cheer leading, genre defining, awe-inspiring DJ performances that have gained this legend an army of adoring fans!

"Good God (beat renegades mix)"

Tube & Berger

Describing their style of music as "Boogie House Electro Punk", Tube & Berger prove that they are not walking the traditional dance music path. This song features The Pretender's lead singer Chrissie Hynde.

"Straight Ahead (thumpin mix)"

Kevin Aviance

Kevin Aviance's music is a mixture of underground funk and bustling house rhythms, performed with such energy, fervor, and wittiness that everyone is out of their seats, letting loose, and dancing when he hits the stage.

Aviance, who credits Boy George, Grace Jones, and David Bowie as major influences, has such a fascinating and commanding presence that one has to see him perform live to truly understand the phenomenon.

Aviance has worked with celebrated djs including Junior Vasquez, Victor Calderone, Basement Jaxx, Deep Dish, Francois Kevorkian, Danny Tenaglia, and Grammy Award-winners Peter Rauhofer and Hex Hector.

"Rhythm is my Bitch (victor calderone mix)"

Save Your Life

I've always loved dance music that featured samples from 70/80's Rock n Roll, and this one doesn't disappoint. Using a guitar sample from Van Halen's song "Ain't talkin bout love", Black Spider places it over a thunderous bass-driven beat and pounds it over our heads, and we will love it!!

"Save Your Life (warp brothers mix)"

Sunday Skool - Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam

Every Sunday I'll feature what I call Sunday Skool : Old School dance!

Our first feature artist is Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam

Born Lisa Velez, lisa lisa was one of ten children who was raised by a single mother in Manhattan's most well-known latin burrough. As the frontwoman for full force's cult jam, lisa lisa enjoyed a string of chart-topping songs, beginning with "I wonder if I take you home". Released by full force productions, "I wonder if I take you home" created enough of a stir to secure the group a recording contract with Columbia Records. Their debut album, lisa lisa & cult jam with full force, built upon the success of "I wonder if I take you home" with the ballad "All cried out". Covered by r&b girl group Allure in 1997, All cried out" earned lisa lisa & cult jam their second charting single and catapulted the album to platinum status. Released in 1987, their sophomore release, Spanish Fly, also acheived platinum sales with singles such as "Head to toe" and "Lost emotion" keeping cult jam on the charts and making lisa lisa an international star.

"I wonder if I take you home"

Saturday Night is alright for Dancing

Just throwing some stuff out there to get your Saturday night pre-party groove on, before the hard and heavy beats kicks in!

Jade Electra - "Bitch, you look fierce"

Capriccio - "Everybody get up"

Drive by Shooters - "Get up"

Studio B

If you can recognise the vocal then the chances are you may have heard 'I See Girls' back in 2003 in the style of an R&B track laid down by singer/songwriter Harry Brooks and producer JD aka Dready. This version kicks it into an electro/dance house groove that gets the body bouncing.

"I See Girls (Tom Neville crazy legs mix)"

House of Pain

Here is my contribution to St. Patrick's Day, so enjoy it!

Of course, it's going to be a dance mix!

Jump Around (2000 club mix)

skin2skin MonsterMix

Time to throw out to the crowd one of my own continuous mixes. This features a blend of hard house, trance, and rave slamming beats.

Here is the track list:
  1. JS16 - Stomp to my beat (klubbheadz mix)
  2. Darude - Sandstorm (hard trance mix)
  3. Lovetribe - Stand up
  4. 666 - Get up to the track
  5. Aurora - Ordinary World (aquagen mix)
  6. Warp Brothers - Phatt Bass
  7. Floorfiller - Dancefloorkiller
  8. LA Style - James Brown is dead (hard mix)
  9. Kernkraft 400 - Zombie Nation
  10. Rednex- Cotton eye joe (aquagen remix)
  11. Praga Khan - Injected with a poison (rave mix)

MonsterMix

Danzel

"Pump It Up" was ‘THE’ summer party anthem for the party crowd last year after it was hammered in all of the Mediterranean hot spots from Portugal and Spain to Greece , Italy , Israel and Turkey!

An infectious club favorite, “Pump It Up” is a combination of the Black and White Brothers euro hit 'Pump It Up' with the seminal 1990 house classic Mixmaster's 'In The Mix'.

"Pump it up (offer nissim club mix)"

Mint Royale

Unapologetic, simple-minded, and celebratory, Britain's Mint Royale follow the more partied-up Big Beat cues from the likes of Fatboy Slim & Bentley Rhythm Ace, while moving it towards a more conscious reconciliation of pop tricks. It wasn't entirely unfathomable that -- along with Scanty Sandwich -- many listeners even theorized that Mint Royale was simply another pseudonym for Norman Cook. (fatboy slim)

The duo of Neil Claxton and Chris Baker first got started as the Mint Gun Club -- releasing just one single -- but gained the quickest notoriety by extremely popular remixes of Kenickie's "I Will Fix You" and Terrorvision's "Tequila" (the latter of which reaching number two in the U.K. charts). The hands-in-the-air revelry and mirth-driven breakbeats of these early releases were an early indicator of where the band was headed with their easygoing vibes.

"Take it easy"

Deep Dish

As American leaders in the international dance music arena, Grammy-Award winners Deep Dish have become one of the most revered names in the genre. Their plate is filled with a long-awaited new artist album on deck for release; 100-plus DJ gigs a year from Los Angeles to Lebanon; high-profile remixes for such artists as Madonna, P Diddy, Dido and Justin Timberlake, just to name a few; a flourishing business in D.C. consisting of three record labels (Yoshitoshi Recordings, Shinichi Records, YO!) and a DJ agency, Bullitt Bookings.

Deep Dish's current smash single *Flashdance* peaked last September on the U.K. music charts at #3 and made its U.S. premiere last June as the #1 top-selling dance track on Apple's iTunes. The new song is the first production from the duo in six years and is the first single from their highly anticipated forthcoming album due out early this year. New wave guitars, powerful beat, and luscious vocals sung by newcomer Anousheh Khalili play up this homage to the 1983 hit film's sexy soundtrack smash by Shandi, "He's a Dream."

A video for the song directed by Paul Minor was recently shot in Los Angeles and features Deep Dish's Ali 'Dubfire' Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi along with Anouseh performing the song in a Japanese Yakuza club.

"Flashdance" Video

Alex K

At just 24 years of age Alex K has quickly risen to the top of the dance music scene after proving his talent as a DJ / producer / remixer. Alex to most would be recognised as the man responsible for the megamixes that appear on the WILD CD series (Wild Volumes 4, 6, 7, 8 & 12). With a cult following amongst Sydney Australia's youth, Alex has also set upon his career as a club DJ as well, with the ability to adapt to any crowd and musical style, rockin' any and every venue he plays at with his up front selection of killer club tunes.

"Shake it up"

Jay-Z/Linkin Park

One of the better mash-ups out there combines Jay-Z rapping his song 99 Problems over Linkin Park's One step closer.

"99 Steps Kloser"

Brooklyn Bounce

As Brooklyn Bounce, producer/DJs Matthias "Double M" Menck and Dennis Bohn attained unexpected commercial success in the mid- to late '90s.

Their electrifying hooks, pumping basslines and strong beats have them at the top of the techno scene.

They are represented onstage by Ulrica Bohn, Alexandra Cuevas Moreno and Rene "Diablo" Behrens.

"The music's got me"

AB Logic

AB Logic was a Euro-dance music duo made up of singer Marianne and rapper K-Swing. Comparable to the C&C Music Factory, Technotronic and Snap, AB Logic used rapping for club-minded purposes--not to chronicle the challenges of life in the ‘hood. From a club perspective, AB Logic's cd was among the strongest dance/rap outings of the early ‘90s, and it's one of my all time favorites.

"Get up (move boy move)"
"Turn up the Music"
"The Hitman"

Some people do listen to techno

Taking a sample from Eminem's song Without me, Base Attack pokes fun at his line "Nobody listens to techno," by wrapping it around a delicious techno beat that pounds and pounds and pounds the point home with bass-driven determination that, yes, some people do listen to techno.

Base Attack - "Nobody listens to techno"

Duke

Considered the wonderboy of white soul in his native England, Duke (aka Mark Adams) is a very unique singer, performer, composer and producer. As a songwriter and lyricist he is prolific and as a vocalist his timbre is wide ranging, sliding from falsetto to deep soul.

Duke achieved great success with his debut album featuring the smash hit ‘So in Love with you’ which attained a Number One position in the US Billboard club chart as well as Number One in the club charts in UK, Belgium, Italy, Spain, France and Holland. Originally a big hit at the Amsterdam gay clubs, this song was written in twenty minutes and was mixed by none other than Norman Cook, (aka Fatboy Slim).

When touring, he is both comfortable performing simply with his acoustic guitar and piano as he is with a full band of musicians and singers.

"So in love with you"

Sophie Ellis Bextor

Famous daughter of ex-Blue Peter favourite Janet Ellis, Sophie was catapulted into the limelight in 2000 when she co-wrote and sang the catchy vocal for Spiller's "Groovejet". She's since gone on to establish herself as a solo artist, releasing two albums and various singles.

The following single is a catchy throwback to the disco era, but with a modern sound. I find it hard not to move when I listen to this.

"Murder on the Dancefloor"

Sia

Starting out as a jazz singer in her hometown of Adelaide in Southern Australia, Sia would go on to make a name for herself in 2000 as a backup singer for Jamiroquai. She eventually released her own single “Taken for Granted," which made it to the top ten on the UK singles chart, and she later worked with local UK favorites like Massive Attack, Zero 7, and William Orbit. In 2001, she would find herself again on the UK music chart with her single “Drink to Get Drunk”. Mostly known for her jazzy hip-hop slow grooves, the following remix would become a smash on the dance circuit.

"Drink to get drunk (different gear mix)"

Pizzaman

Better known as Fatboy Slim, Norman Cook was, at one time, a member of Pizzaman, which also consisted of producers Tim Jeffrey and J.C. Reid. The trio would have 3 top 40 hits in the U.K.

"Trippin' on Sunshine," "Happiness," and the following song:

"Sex in the Streets"

Porn Kings

It's always cool to hear a song that uses a sample that you recognize, especially if it's a sample of a song that you like. That is what makes the following song by the Porn Kings even more enjoyable for me. The Porn Kings, led by DJ Davy T., hail from Liverpool, England, where they began their career as club DJ's until they scored their first big success as artists with Up To No Good in 1996. It went Top 30 in the UK and Germany and #1 in Canada. It even went on to become a massive club anthem around the world, especially here in the US.

The 2nd song listed is the one they use the sample from.

Porn Kings - "Up To No Good"

Whodini - "Big Mouth

Whodini consisted of Jalil, Ecstacy, & Grandmaster Dee. Formed in the early 80's, the group got its start in an unusual way. Thomas Dolby, known for the classic 8o's track "She Blinded Me With Science," brought in a track to Jive, where it was suggested someone rap over it. The label recruited Jalil and Ecstasy to record a track about radio personality Mister Magic. The song was a hit in Europe.

Big Mouth is off of their platimun selling album, Escape, which is their best selling album. It also features the hits, Freaks come out at night and Friends.

Messiah

Time to whip out some tunes from one of my faves. I only have 5 CD's that I can listen to without skipping a track and this is one of them. Produced by Rick Rubin, it features some of the best break beat techno of the 90s and doesn't resort to the mind numbing (and not innovative) thump-thump-thump bass/drums like most techno.

Almost every song has a little voice intro that suits the song well. The vocal samples in the songs are creatively done. They include Richard Dawson from the movie Running Man,("Who loves you, and who do you love!"), a clip from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,("Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls........dieing time is here"), and another one from Jimi Hendrix ("Excuse me, while I kiss the sky").

Every track on this CD is solid. They incorporate everything that I like in techno/dance music. Picking just 3, for you to listen to, is very difficult to do, but I'm up for the challenge.

"You're going insane"

"The Future is Now" - Hidden Track

"Creator"
Includes audio snippets of Charles Manson, and features The Cult's Ian
Astbury
on vocals.

Bomfunk MC's

Bomfunk MC's is a finnish band mainly composed of the rapper B.O.Dubb, the Skillsters (DJ), Mr. Willy (bassist), A.T. (drummer) and is produced by JS16 (who is also their co-writer).

The rave stylers of rock beat stormed the charts across the World with their smash hit single, 'Freestyler' - at 2.2 million, the biggest selling European single of the year 2000.

The 2nd song takes a sample from Frida's (I know there's) something going on.

"Freestyler"
"(crack it) Something going on"

Skatt Brothers

If you liked your disco trashy, with a rock attitude, then you definitely would enjoy the sounds of the Skatt Brothers, who created some hard-driving, high energy, music with a slightly sinister touch. Consider the lyrics to our featured song.

He's got a rod beneath his coat,
he's gonna ram right down your throat.
Make you grovel on the floor,
spit, bump, and scream and beg for more.

Two of the members were involved with other well known groups. Pieter Swivel was a member of Looking Glass and Sean Delaney was once considered the 5th member of Kiss. But don't let that fool you. This is pure dance music, with a nasty disposition.

The following song is their best one.

Walk the Night

Lexy & K-Paul

Who knew that one of the better DJ/Producer teams would get together after being thrown out of a club because they were fighting over the same girl. They would then merge into one of the most in demand DJ teams in Germany, as well as hosts of Germany's Electric Kingdom events. Their combination of techno and electro with house grooves has created a unique sound all their own.

Here are two of their best songs.

"Freak"
"The Greatest DJ"

Gillette

Everyone is pretty much familiar with her song Short Dick Man. But if that is all that you listen to by her you are missing out on some great dance music. I would suggest picking up either of her CD's, Shake your Moneymaker and On the Attack. Both feature bouncy electronic hip-hop dance that cause your hips to move back and forth.

The first song is off of On the Attack. The 2nd song was a single release CD that featured 3 different mixes.

Gillette - You're a Dog
Gillette - Sex Tonight

DJ Godfather - Bounce Shorty Bounce

OXY

With winter still raging here in the Northeast I felt like hearing some summery dance music. This is one of the songs that I turn to . It has a nice breezy feel to it that allows you to either sit around with a mixed drink, or get up and shake that thang.

OXY consists of 2 members. Jeff Hypp & Johan Gielen.

Johan Gielen started DJ'ing at the age of 17 in his homecountry Belgium, and has during the latest 15 years build up an international fame spinning as a DJ in Japan, Australia, Germany, Spain, Holland, Belgium, England, Northern Eireland, Israel and now also as resident DJ at Club Gorgeous in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Besides DJ'ing Johan is a very successfull trance producer working with his "partner in music" Sven Maes. Johan and Sven are behind European smash hit's from Airscape, Balearic Bill, Abnea. Furthermore they are well known for their remixing skills which can be heard on productions on releases by Chicane, Delerium, Vengaboys, Tiƫsto, Scooter, Boy George & Alice Deejay.

The following are groups that he has been a part of:

A Special Person, Abnea, Airscape, Allegro, Azzuro Project, Balearic Bill, Blue Bamboo, Boccaccio Life, Body Heat, Bombario, J'N'J, Matanka, OXY, Ramses, Rave Crusader, Strawberry Flavour, Summer Madness, Supertronic Co., Sven Maes & Johan Gielen, Svenson & Gielen, Transformer 2, Voodoo Suite.

OXY - The Feeling (summer mix)

No Doubt vs Eminem

This is one of the better mash-ups. The lyrics to Without me over the music of Hella Good. It certainly helps that I love both songs.

No Doubt vs. Eminem - "Hella good without me"

Roni Griffith

Time to throw out some old school disco. My first experience of going to a disco was a place called Circle Electric. The club was built to look like the club featured in the movie Saturday Night Fever. It had the underlit floor and the overhead spinning lights. It also included an enormous dry ice system that would cover the whole floor. You couldn't see from one end of the floor to the other, it was so thick. I'll never forget the smell of it. That is one of my fondest memories of the place. I eventually became the DJ of the club and the following song was a huge hit with the crowd, as well as one of my favorites. It should also give you a hint of when I worked there.

Roni Griffith - "Best part of breaking up"

Funky Green Dogs

Some of my favorite remixes are done under the name Club 69, aka Peter Rauhofer. Here he takes an ok song and turns it into a masterpiece.

Funky Green Dogs - "Body (club 69 mix)"

Rock Remixed

I love rock songs that are remixed with dance beats. They give me something new to throw out to the crowd when I'm DJing a party.

Here are a few interesting ones.

Van Halen - "You really got me (trance mix)"

Aerosmith - "Jaded (jason nevins mix)"

Ram Jam - "Black Betty (bam-a-lam mix)"
